Keith Nevols, Membership Secretary of the Sittingbourne and Sheppey Liberal Democrats, has announced the first details of the local campaign for a Yes vote in the Alternative Vote referendum on 5 May.
A stall will be set up in Sittingbourne High Street on Saturday 12 March, with an additional stall in Sheerness at a date yet to be confirmed, where materials will be available and questions can be answered
'We are intending to use this stall to bring the message from the Yes viewpoint to as many people as we can. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform the way we choose our MPs and get rid of a system whereby the vast majority of MPs sit in comfortable safe seats for as long as they want, and most of the electorate's votes are wasted. We will be informing people what is at stake and telling them more about why we are advocating a yes vote.'
'There are supporters for AV from every political party, even some Conservatives. Members and supporters from any political party or none are all welcome to join us in campaigning for a system which puts more power in the hands of the voter and makes our candidates and MPs have to work harder for our support.'
