Following up on their extreme successful protest march at the beginning of this month, members of the Five Parishes Opposition Group, and the local MP travelled to London to present their 3000 signature petition to Downing Street last Thursday 8th March. Also meeting with ministers and members of the main opposition parties.
Regrettably Dan Rogerson MP, the Lib Dem housing Spokesperson, was unable to meet them on that day due to other commitments. Mr Rogerson has re-arranged to meet with representatives of the FPOG later this month.
Sittingbourne High Street full of protestors against the Kent Science Park
Sittingbourne & Sheppey Liberal Democrats support the FPOG in their campaign against the huge housing development associated with the proposed Science Park expansion. Constituency Chairman Berick Tomes said, "We are obviously happy to see more economic opportunities in the Borough, and there are many on the existing business parks. However, our concerns are that this proposal comes with such a heavy price on the surrounding community. 4500 houses would devastate a huge swathe of the countryside and have a massively detrimental effect on the local communities, not to mention an negative impact on local services."
Dan Rogerson MP, Lib Dem housing Spokesperson said: "The whole point about the planning process is that it meets the development needs of the community that it serves. In this instance, local Lib Dems have my support as they campaign for any further building to be limited to the current boundaries of the science park."
